For Achievers 90 The 90-Day FIT for SUCCESS Challenge Participants Jump-Start Healthy Habits Shawn Phillips r> ^^a^^^lj More than 5,000 people are registered for SUCCESS magazine's 90-Day FIT for SUCCESS Challenge led by fitness expert Shawn Phillips. The program is designed to help people rediscover their vitality through healthier lifestyle habits. "Strengthening your body and energizing your mind is not a sacrifice, but an investment in your most precious resource you," Phillips says. Participants follow Phillips through his weekly blog and videos at SUCCESS.com/challenge, which provide fitness, nutritional and motivational information, and his book, Strength for Life: The Fitness Plan for the Rest of Your Life. Phillips has encouraged participants to revise the way they think about food and fitness. For instance, "Rather than thinking how a meal fills a void or satisfies a craving, think about how food fills nutritional needs, elevating your mood and energy," he says. Rather than thinking of "exercise," think of "training" instead. "Training is focused on achieving specific results, which fuels an intense drive and motivation." Participants include those who are already fitness-oriented, as well as those who need more motivation. Participant Beth Williams says the challenge "was just the mental kick in the butt I needed to get serious about my health. I am 45 and am carrying at least 40 pounds more than I'd like to be. It's a far cry from the old days when I was on a six-day-a-week weightlifting schedule at the gym with my bodybuilding buddies." Another participant, Russ Goddard, says maintaining the right mindset is important in staying healthy, especially "in our environment of fast food and instant gratification. It takes discipline to have the right foods available at the right time, versus grabbing whatever is at hand or at the next drive-through. For me, personally, it requires effort and planning to make sure I do what I'm supposed to do the next day." Even if you haven't started the 90-Day FIT for SUCCESS challenge, you can benefit from the blogs and videos at SUCCESS.com/challenge.
